The star has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the Britain's small live music spots.

The star was presented with the cheque on October 16 as his latest record his work was declared the best record of the past year.

He has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages had in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, major artists such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his live tour to assist 38 local spots across the UK.

The donation helped spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to issues stemming from water damage, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and fans.

"The concept that revenue from concerts in big venues backs the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

Fender is among several artists to donate his award winnings to worthy causes.

In Pulp won the award in the year 1996 for their record Different Class, vocalist Cocker declared that the group would contribute their cash to the non-profit War Child.

That year, rapper and singer she split her prize between a few organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked updated gear," the artist shared with outlets.

Previously, they gave their funds to the local youth club that supported their act, as well as other local music groups.

Additionally winners that year they gave their prize to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," stated vocalist Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the cake. So our success affected somebody else's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust announced it had rescued two small stages in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in that area and The Croft in the city were acquired under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is funded by a national body and supporters who buy "stakes" in the properties.
